You can expect your mentor to be there to advise you at every point of the application process. They’ll be able to share the combined knowledge they’ve gained from their own experiences of applying to medical school, along with that of their friends. They’ll be able to teach you all of the tips and tricks involved when it comes to securing your place at medical school (…and warn you of the mistakes you cannot afford to make). Remember being one character off of the 4,000 character limit when writing your personal statement, and those stressful UCAS Track emails? Yeah, we’ve all been there. Now, remember just how valuable it was to have the help and guidance of a super-kind medic? Most of us have that one older medic to whom we will be forever grateful, and without whom we would not be on this path to becoming doctors and helping humanity. If you didn’t have that person, we’re sure you can appreciate just how useful it would have been if you did. Why not be that person for someone else? Start a chain of medics, helping potential medics into medicine – a chain of doctors who will go on to relieve suffering all over the world?[/cs_text][x_button type=”transparent” shape=”pill” size=”global” block=”true” circle=”false” icon_only=”false” href=”http://medicu.co.uk/index.php/outreach/bursaries/medic-mentors-form/” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””]Become a Mentor[/x_button][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section bg_image=”http://medicu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/doc-1.jpg” parallax=”true” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”false” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”hsla(0, 0%, 88%, 0)” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column bg_color=”rgb(252, 252, 252)” fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 100px 80px;”][x_feature_box title=”” title_color=”” text_color=”” graphic=”icon” graphic_size=”100px” graphic_shape=”circle” graphic_color=”hsl(0, 0%, 0%)” graphic_bg_color=”rgb(5, 192, 199)” align_h=”center” align_v=”top” side_graphic_spacing=”20px” max_width=”none” graphic_icon=”gamepad”][/x_feature_box][x_custom_headline level=”h4″ accent=”false” class=”cs-ta-center” style=”color: hsl(0, 0%, 2%);”]IT’S ALL JUST ONE BIG GAME…[/x_custom_headline][x_line style=”border-top-width: 1px;”][cs_text class=”cs-ta-center”]

Applying to medicine is like playing a game. From making your four university choices, to knowing what to say at your interview, it’s all about making the right moves. Moreover, it’s about making sure you don’t make the wrong moves, and end up falling out of the application process.

Many of us on the MedICU team, failed to gain places at medical school the first time we applied – we went from having no offers the first year round, to up to four offers each the second time around. The only difference was, that we had learned from our mistakes. Mistakes that now seem so incredibly blatant to us now (like applying to three BMAT universities, or four London universities). Another difference was that we actively sought out the help of current medics the second time we applied, and it made all the difference. Having a medic mentor would mean someone to point out those mistakes to you and point you in the right direction. We cannot emphasise enough, just how much it makes all the difference.

That’s why we’re setting up the Medic Mentor Scheme; so that you have the best chance of being part of the 9.5% of successful medicine applicants (and also, as a way of saying thank you to everyone who helped us).

If you do not qualify for the scheme, then fear not! Our premium tutoring and coaching services are the most affordable on the market; you’ll receive just as much support as you would if you were a part of the scheme, and just as with the scheme, our tutors will go the extra mile to get you into medical school. You can check out our gold-standard services here.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level=”h4″ accent=”false” style=”color: hsl(0, 0%, 21%);”]What happens next?[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]If your application is successful, then we’ll try our best to get back to you by the 1st of October 2016 or earlier, letting you know that you’ve got a place. After that, you should expect to receive an email from your new mentor, introducing themselves (we’ll send them your contact details and application form with details of your UCAS application, but we will never share any of the documents you email us to prove your financial situation).

As much as we would love to pair everyone up with a medic mentor, places are limited and based on the number of medics that sign up to volunteer as mentors, so we cannot make any guarantees. If you don’t hear from us by the 1st of October 2016, it’s because we were unfortunately unable to pair you up with a mentor. We apologise in advance if this is the case. This is a cause that is incredibly close to our hearts, so we will try our upmost best to recruit as many mentors as possible. [/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]
